Visakhapatnam: City Police conducted surprise raids on 121 spa centres in various parts of the city on Sunday night in the city with a view to eradicating ganja, narcotic drug abuse and other antisocial activities and busted a prostitution racket operating under the guise of spa/massage centres in the city.
The operation was carried out under the directives of City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi based on complaints filed by the public that large-scale prostitution and other anti-social activities were taking place in these centres. The simultaneous raids targeted specific areas including Gajuwaka, China Gantyada, among other areas.
During the raids, police found evidence of prostitution being run under the guise of spa centres. In the process, Gajuwaka police took four women, three customers and the organisers from Miami Ayurvedic Centre into custody. They were later shifted to the Gajuwaka police station. The rescued women were taken to state-run safe facilities. Similar coordinated steps have ramped up scrutiny on wellness centers flouting regulations in the city.
