Vizag Aims World Record On June 21 International Yoga Day

Visakhapatnam is aiming to set a world record on the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21 in the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the event. State government has committed itself to turn the day a landmark occasion.

The previous record had been set in Surat in 2023. Visakhapatnam aspires to create the record with a historic gathering of five lakh participants across north Andhra's multiple districts.

In this regard, Visakhapatnam district collector M.N. Harendira Prasad presided over a review meeting at the collectorate on Tuesday. He proposed a “Yoga Month" initiative from Wednesday, May 21, leading up to June 21. Sessions will be held in village and ward secretariats across the district.

The collector instructed officials to involve private trainers, yoga associations and experts to ensure widespread participation in the June 21 International Yoga Day.

The theme for this year’s event is – Yoga for One Earth, One Health – highlighting yoga's significance in fostering global well-being. Registrations are being facilitated for students, women’s groups, government and private sector employees, and volunteers to promote mass participation.

Harendira Prasad outlined major arrangements for RK Beach, where yoga sessions will be conducted. Plans include performances extending to Bheemili Beach Road, with 2.5 lakh participants expected from RK Beach to Bheemili Beach Road.

Committees have been formed at district, mandal, and village levels to oversee logistics, security, sanitation and medical support.
