Visakhapatnam Teen Develops App for Blood Donors
“This may be the first of its kind application in India, as I could not find a similar app in Google Play store,” says Prof. Mallikarjuna Rao, head of the department, Electrical Engineering, Andhra University.

Visakhapatnam: Tapasvii, a Class V student of a private school in Visakhapatnam, went through an emotional churn when her grandmother died because the blood required did not reach her on time. Observing the chaos behind the sourcing of blood, she wondered why she cannot order blood on a mobile application, like ordering snacks and groceries using online platforms.
Tapasvii started working on the matter and learnt basic coding techniques, Python principles, and other backend tools with the help of family members, who are post-graduates in engineering and business administration. Her teachers at the Divine Touch School, particularly the computer teacher, and class teacher, also helped her.
After a year of work, Tapasvii has prepared the platform Suraksha. She has tested its functionalities, such as login, filling the forms, getting the request for blood, giving consent to be donor, details of ambulance services, and medical testing labs.
“Suraksha is an android-based mobile application that bridges the gap between the receivers and donors of blood to save lives during the golden hour. Every service on Suraksha is free of cost,” says Tapasvii.
She says she is waiting for an auspicious occasion to launch the app for use by citizens. The app is available on the Google Play store.
