Visakhapatnam: South Zone Judicial Conference Focuses on Court Reforms

Visakhapatnam: The two-day South Zone Regional Judicial Conference began in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, inaugurated by Supreme Court Justice P.S. Narasimha, retired Supreme Court Judge and National Judicial Academy Director Justice Aniruddha Bose, and Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur.
Day one focused on docket exclusion, enhancing inclusivity, and optimising court management. Sessions were led by Justice P.S. Narasimha, Justice AK Jay Sankaran Nambiar, Justice P. Sam Koshy, and Justice Anita Sumanth, exploring alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms and bridging the digital divide with e-services.
Justice P.S. Narasimha, in his address, stressed the use of modern technology like ICT and AI to expedite case resolutions and highlighted the need for transparent mediation processes. Chief Justice Thakur underscored the importance of public legal awareness and the transition towards paperless courts while urging the legal fraternity to prioritise humanity and human rights in trials.
Retired Justice Aniruddha Bose revealed alarming statistics of 4.5 crore pending cases, urging alternative mediation for quicker resolutions. Judges from High Courts across South India discussed case management strategies and ADR methods, addressing challenges and solutions.
The conference continues with a focus on the judiciary-media relationship and its impact on justice delivery.
