Visakhapatnam: SCoR Steps Up Checks on Drinking Water Quality

Visakhapatnam: South Coast Railway (SCoR) has launched a comprehensive quality-assurance drive to ensure safe and potable water supply across railway stations, residential colonies and railway hospitals.
The monitoring initiative is being conducted in accordance with the Indian Railways Medical Manual (IRMM) by specialised teams of inspectors under the supervision of senior officers.
A release said the measures include daily testing of residual chlorine at source and supply points, bacteriological analysis and bi-annual chemical tests.
General manager Sandeep Mathur directed officers and field supervisors to maintain strict vigilance and conduct frequent surprise inspections to ensure safe drinking water for passengers, residents and rail users.
During the week-long drive, SCoR tested drinking water quality across its four divisions, analysing 3,441 locations for residual chlorine, 211 samples for bacteriological safety and 28 samples for chemical standards.
All the samples tested during the drive passed the prescribed quality standards, the release said.
