Visakhapatnam: Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao has urged Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation officials to act swiftly to resolve the drinking water shortage in the Madhurawada and Bheemili zones.
Chairing a review meeting at his camp office on Thursday, he stressed that officials must prioritize drawing of water from the Tatapudi reservoir to meet the residents' immediate needs.
He said he has already spoken to Municipal Administration minister P. Narayana about the urgency of supplying Tatapudi water to these areas.
Expressing concern that drinking water supply has not improved despite Godavari water reaching Visakhapatnam, Ganta directed officials to expedite work on sanctioned projects, meet timelines, and use local labour for construction.
Officials informed the MLA that a ₹550‑crore project under implementation would ensure supply of drinking water to Madhurawada on a long‑term solution.
They explained that the situation has worsened due to declining groundwater levels following inadequate rainfall.
Officials also presented designs for a ₹4 crore project to improve water supply in Ward 4.
Those who attended the review meeting included GVMC Water Supply superintending engineer Pallam Raju, executive engineer Sudhakar and zonal commissioner Ayyappa Naidu.
