Visakhapatnam: 4 kg gold seized, two held
A district-level committee meeting of NCORD (Narcotics Coordination) was held, where district collector N. Harendhira Prasad and Police Commissioner Sankhabrata Bhagchi emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to combat the illicit trafficking of drugs and ganja in Visakhapatnam.
The meeting, chaired by the district collector, highlighted the proactive measures undertaken by the district and police administration to eliminate drugs and ganja from Visakhapatnam completely. These measures include establishing check posts along transportation routes associated with ganja, conducting thorough inspections, and making seizures. Additionally, the officials emphasised the utilisation of sniffer dogs for detecting cannabis and drugs at various locations such as railway stations, bus stands, baggage lockers, parcel offices, suspicious vehicles, and shops. Special training has been provided to the dogs for this purpose.
Officials from various departments attended the meeting, including joint police commissioner Dr K. Fakkirappa, representatives from the customs, port, narcotic, drugs, and fisheries departments, and other key personnel from the R&B, education, medical health, and information civil relations departments.
