Visakhapatnam : Residents of the Rebba and Vanadhara tribal villages in Salapada panchayat of Komarada mandal in Parvathipuram Manyam district staged a protest after nearly 80 ration card holders were denied their monthly rice quota under the public distribution system.
According to CPIM leader Kolli Sambamurthy, the depot salesman had instructed villagers to arrive at the depot at 8 am on Monday. Even after waiting 4 hours, the rice was not distributed, despite repeated assurances. Frustrated by the delay, the tribal residents travelled in auto-rickshaws and tractors to the Komarada tahsildar’s office to register their protest. Deputy Tahsildar Fakir reached the protest site and assured the crowd that the rice would be delivered by 10 pm on Tuesday. He contacted district officials and visited the depot in person to ensure immediate distribution. Following his assurance, the protest was temporarily withdrawn. However, the leaders cautioned that if the ration rice did not reach the tribal villages by 10 am on Tuesday, they would return to the tahsildar’s office to resume their agitation. Tribal youth Eshwara Rao, Venu, Mahesh, Chennarao, Parayya, and Gopal Rao led the protest.
