Vijayawada:Pakistan Colony located within Vijayawada Urban Division 62 has been renamed as Bhagiratha Colony.In a statement on Tuesday, NTR district collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha said the renaming has been done following a demand from the public.
The renaming as Bhagiratha Colony is as per the provisions of the Municipal Corporation Act.Dr. Lakshmisha said the change in the colony’s name has come after requests from public representatives, members of the Sagar Rajput (Kshatriya Varna Sagar) Seva Samiti, and local residents.
He pointed out that as per Section 418 of the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, the proposal to rename Pakistan Colony had been brought before the council, which passed the same.
The collector said following the change in the name of the colony, three special Aadhaar centres have been set up in the area in coordination with various departments to facilitate the change in the name of the colony.
Dr. Lakshmisha announced that henceforth, Pakistan Colony will be officially known as Bhagiratha Colony.
