VIJAYAWADA: Minister for tourism and culture Kandula Durgesh said on Monday that the Vijayawada Utsav would showcase the city’s cultural and spiritual grandeur and help develop it into a major festival destination in the country during the Dasara celebrations.
He said Vijayawada Utsav-2 would be held from October 11 to 20 and would bring vibrancy to the city, provide entertainment to people and give a major boost to the local economy by generating employment opportunities for small traders, autorickshaw drivers and other sections of society. The cultural festival was being organised to showcase the historical, spiritual and cultural significance of Vijayawada to the world, he said.
The minister said such platforms would help preserve endangered folk-art forms such as Tholu Bommalata, Dappu and Tappegagullu, as well as mythological dramas, while encouraging local artistes. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said tourism development would strengthen the local economy and increase the Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP).
