VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada division of South Coast Railway (SCoR) has launched the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign with cleanliness and awareness programmes at railway offices and stations, focusing on waste segregation, sustainable sanitation and public participation.
The campaign began with a Swachhata Pledge administered by Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya at the divisional headquarters. Railway employees, Safai Mitras and other stakeholders took the pledge and reaffirmed their commitment to keeping railway stations, trains and public spaces clean.
As part of the campaign, the division organised a four-way waste segregation awareness drive for passengers, railway employees, vendors and service providers. They were educated on segregating waste at source into wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste for scientific disposal.
The division also conducted a Swachhata Gyan Yatra for school students to the Vijayawada and Narasapur coaching depots and the Electric Loco Shed in Vijayawada. Students visited waste-management facilities, coach washing lines and sanitation infrastructure, including bio-toilets.
Sonakiya said cleanliness was a collective responsibility requiring the participation of employees, passengers and other stakeholders. He appealed to people to make cleanliness a daily habit.
