Vijayawada Gears Up for Dasara Cultural Spectacle
The MP said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had directed officials to coordinate arrangements for transport, security, sanitation and drinking water.
Vijayawada: Vijayawada will host the Vijayawada Utsav and National Lake Mela during Dasara to attract devotees, tourists and art lovers, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) said on Sunday.
The Vijayawada Utsav will be held from October 11 to 20 and the National Lake Mela from October 8 to 23, mainly at the 18-acre Punnami Ghat. Programmes will also be held at Makineneni Basavapunnaiah Stadium.
Chinni said lakhs of devotees were expected during the Dasara Navaratri celebrations. The 10-day Utsav will feature cultural performances representing different states, a national food festival and participation by artists from across the country. Chief ministers and Union ministers will also be invited. Efforts are being made to bring elephants from Mysuru.
A special itinerary is being planned to enable visitors to combine darshan of Goddess Kanaka Durga with the Utsav and Lake Mela during a two-day visit.

Chinni said the Utsav would be organised with support from donors, organisations and various sections of society, with plans to eventually make it self-sustaining.
