Vijayawada :The South Central Railway’s Vijayawada Division marked Energy Conservation Week 2025 with a special programme held at Vijayawada on Thursday. The week-long observance, organised from December 6 to 13, aimed to promote awareness on responsible energy use among railway personnel and students.
Divisional railway manager Mohit Sonakiya presided over the event as chief guest and administered the energy conservation pledge to officers and staff. ADRM (Infrastructure) P.E. Edwin and ADRM (operations) Srinivasa Rao Konda attended as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Sonakiya underscored the critical importance of energy conservation in achieving sustainable development. He urged railway employees to adopt simple yet effective practices such as switching off lights and fans when not in use, optimising electrical loads, and embracing modern energy-efficient technologies to reduce the railways’ environmental footprint.
As part of the observance, awareness competitions were conducted for students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jack & Jill School, and Scouts and Guides members. Prizes were distributed to winners, and students were sensitised on building a greener future.
Senior divisional electrical engineer T. Suresh Babu coordinated the week’s activities, which saw enthusiastic participation from officers and staff across all departments.
