Vijayawada Airport to Mark 12 Years of Growth with Yatri Suvidha Diwas
As part of the celebrations, passengers will be welcomed with a traditional tilak, while departing travellers will be offered free basic health check-ups.

Vijayawada: Vijayawada International Airport will observe Yatri Suvidha Diwas on June 15, marking 12 years of growth and infrastructure development that have transformed it from a regional airport into an international aviation gateway for Andhra Pradesh.
As part of the celebrations, passengers will be welcomed with traditional tilak, while departing travellers will be offered free basic health check-ups. A voluntary blood donation camp, tree plantation drive, educational visits for schoolchildren, cultural programmes and special illumination of the terminal building have also been planned.
According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), annual passenger traffic at the airport increased from 2.33 lakh in 2014-15 to more than 14.11 lakh in 2025-26, registering growth of over 504 per cent. Revenue rose from Rs.5.98 crore to Rs.87.97 crore during the same period.
Aircraft movements increased by more than 225 per cent, while the domestic network expanded from three destinations — Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru — to nine cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Kadapa and Kurnool.
A major milestone was achieved in December 2018 with the launch of international operations connecting Vijayawada to destinations such as Sharjah and Singapore. The airport was designated a Haj embarkation point in 2023 and has facilitated travel for 2,861 pilgrims over the past three years.
The airport has also witnessed significant infrastructure expansion, including runway extension, apron development, a new Air Traffic Control tower and construction of a mega integrated terminal building, scheduled for completion by December 2026.
Passenger amenities introduced in recent years include Digi Yatra, free Wi-Fi, FASTag-enabled parking and the Udan Yatri Café.
Airport director M. Lakshmi Kantha Reddy said the celebrations would showcase the airport’s achievements while reaffirming its commitment to passenger service, sustainability and future growth.
