Veligonda Evacuation Plan Gets Urgent Push Ahead Of Trial Run
Officials are speeding up rehabilitation and evacuation arrangements for villages in the Veligonda project’s submergence area ahead of the August 22 trial water release.

Markapuram collector M. Vijaya Sunitha has directed officials to ensure the safe evacuation of people from villages in the Veligonda project’s submergence area ahead of the scheduled water release trial run on August 22.
Reviewing rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) arrangements with district officials at the Markapuram Collectorate on Wednesday, the Collector directed officials to carry out the evacuation without pressure or confrontation and in a cordial atmosphere. She said every eligible displaced family would receive justice in compensation matters.
Special committees have been constituted to oversee the planned evacuation of residents from Sunkesula, Kalanuthala, Gundencherla, Gottipadiya, Chintala Mudipi, Katamaraju Thanda, Lakshmipuram, Krishnanagar and Akkacheruvu villages.
Vijaya Sunitha directed officials to submit daily progress reports on R&R colonies and complete essential facilities, including drinking water, electricity and roads, on a priority basis. She also directed officials to take precautionary measures to prevent difficulties during the relocation process.
Joint Collector P. Srinivasulu, RDO Venkata Sivaramireddy and officials from RWS, Transport, Mining, DWMA, Agriculture, Education and other departments attended the meeting.
