Vehicle Sales Across All Segments Register Steady Growth in Andhra Pradesh

Vehicle registrations up to February this financial year have shown a notable increase, particularly in two-wheelers and goods transport vehicles

KURNOOL: Andhra Pradesh has recorded a steady rise in vehicle sales, with the growth rate crossing 8.5 per cent in the financial year 2025–26 compared to the previous year, according to the latest data. While the growth reflects improving demand across all segments, AP, however, continues to trail behind the national average, indicating a relatively slower expansion.

Vehicle registrations up to February this financial year have shown a notable increase, particularly in two-wheelers and goods transport vehicles. The rise in two-wheeler purchases has been largely driven by rural demand, where such vehicles have become essential for commuting as well as carrying out small-scale business activities.

Sheikh Shameer Basha from Badvel in Kadapa district said, “Despite increase in price over the years, I had to purchase a two-wheeler for my business needs. It has become a basic necessity for my daily life.”

In the non-transport segment, the state recorded an 8.23 per cent growth. Two-wheelers accounted for an 8.35 per cent increase, while four-wheelers grew by 7.23 per cent. However, the national growth rate in this category is higher at 12.40 per cent, highlighting the gap between the state and the national trend.

The transport vehicle segment posted a strong growth of 18.37 per cent in Andhra Pradesh. Goods vehicles led the segment with a sharp rise of 22.59 per cent, reflecting increased movement of goods and improving economic activity.

Passenger transport vehicles grew by 12.12 per cent, while auto-rickshaws registered a 16.48 per cent increase. At the national level, this segment recorded a growth of 14.24 per cent.

In “other vehicles” category, AP has registered a 7.72 per cent growth, compared to the national average of 11.92 per cent.

A Road Transport department official said, “The government is generating higher revenues due to increased purchases of goods vehicles. With further industrial growth, this trend is likely to continue in the coming months.”

Experts believe that vehicle sales are expected to rise further, supported by favourable financial conditions. Easier availability of loans, competitive interest rates from banks, and aggressive lending by private finance companies are encouraging buyers.

A private bank manager G. Ratnakar said, “We are not only financing new vehicles, but also extending loans for second-hand cars. This has made vehicle ownership more accessible and is contributing to overall growth in sales.”

With sustained rural demand and improving access to finance, vehicle sales in Andhra Pradesh are likely to maintain their upward trajectory in the near future.
