ANANTAPUR: A major mishap has been averted after a Vande Bharat Express train struck a cow between Hindupur and Devarapalli railway stations in Hindupur Rural mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district on Sunday.
According to railway sources, the Vande Bharat from Kacheguda to Bengaluru had been approaching Devarapalli near the Karnataka border of Gowribidnur taluka when a cow suddenly strayed onto the tracks. With the loco pilot having no time to avert the hit, the high-speed train hit the animal, killing it on the spot.
However, the Vande Bharat pilot safely brought the train under control, ensuring the safety of all passengers on board. The impact with the cow caused significant damage to the front portion of the train.
Sources said that no passengers have suffered injuries in the incident. Passengers wondered why the train had come to an abrupt halt. Many remained unaware of the reason behind the sudden stoppage until rail traffic did not resume for nearly an hour.
Officials examined the damage and carried out restoration work. Train services resumed after necessary safety checks had been completed.
Railway authorities are investigating the incident. They have reiterated the need to prevent cattle movement near railway tracks to avoid such occurrences in the future.
