As Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, is preparing for her official visit to India, her family connection to Visakhapatnam has come out in the open.

Visakhapatnam: As Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, is preparing for her official visit to India, her family connection to Visakhapatnam has come out in the open.
Usha’s great-grandmother, Dr. Chilikuri Santhamma, a distinguished professor of physics, aged 96, has never met Usha, raised in the United States.
Dr. Santhamma revealed that Usha is the daughter of her brother-in-law's son, a familial link that has remained distant due to geographical and generational divides.
Despite lacking direct interaction, Dr. Santhamma expressed her hopes for a meaningful connection. “If I ever have the opportunity to speak with Usha, I would encourage her to visit Visakhapatnam and help foster good relations between the United States and India,” she said.
Dr. Santhamma’s dedication to education is extraordinary. She continues to commute 60 kilometres daily to teach at Centurion University in Vizianagaram, inspiring students with her expertise and passion for physics.
