Visakhapatnam:Hot, humid weather did not stop a set of young officers from US naval ships USS Comstock and Ralph Johnson from moving around and enjoying the beauty of Visakhapatnam, charms of its people, and the spicy food here.
The US personnel are here on a joint exercise with the Indian Navy as part of ongoing Tiger Triumph-25. The harbor exercise is going on and they would later move into the sea for the sea phase of the exercise.
The Whidbey Island-Class dock landing ship USS Comstock (LSD 45) and US Navy’s guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) arrived at Visakhapatnam for Exercise Tiger Triumph- 2025 last week.
Naval Officer B Stocks of USS Comstock said he was feeling proud being part of the Tiger Triumph exercise. Speaking to the media, he said their primary task was to encompass amphibious operations and humanitarian aid disaster relief.
“Comstock has huge space to bring in landing crafts, relief material, medicines and other equipment to the affected areas. Having 350 personnel on board, we bring tremendous amounts of marine combat power ashore for them to execute their missions, develop force, increase tempo, and proceed towards their objective,, he stated.
As for the ongoing Tiger Triumph, Stocks said that they are excited to be a part of the multinational joint and combined operations involving the US and Indian navies.
USS Comstock with a crew complement of about 350 can carry about 450 marines to build a robust force to carry out humanitarian aid and relief in the affected areas. Stocks said he was enjoying his stay in Visakhapatnam, moving around the streets, eating spicy food and shopping.
“Spicy food is not new to me. My mother hails from Mexico known for its hot chillies,’’ Stocks said.
Naval Officer JAC Caesar of USS Ralph Johnson said Ralph Johnson was commissioned seven years ago and it was relatively new within the Navy in terms of destroyers. Regarding the Tiger Triumph, Caesar said the big focus is the amphibious humanitarian aid disaster response exercise with the INS Jalashwa.
