Naidu invited Singapore’s housing board to act as a development partner and shared the state’s urban vision, strategic goals and ongoing initiatives.

Vijayawada:Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has sought collaboration with Singapore entities for AP’s upcoming urban housing projects, mainly in the capital city of Amaravati.

During his second day’s interactions in Singapore on Monday, Naidu met representatives from the island nation’s housing board, urban redevelopment authority, various enterprises and the World Bank. He sought their support for developing AP’s housing projects.

Naidu invited Singapore’s housing board to act as a development partner and shared the state’s urban vision, strategic goals and ongoing initiatives.

He visited the Bidadari housing project and walked through the estate to study its innovative and eco-friendly urban housing model. He lauded the project’s through integration of nature, heritage and community living and felt this was a powerful example for cities across the world.

Naidu said AP’s capital city Amarvati was being built with a vision that would blend modern infrastructure with a bold and future-oriented approach. AP aims to follow globally recognised best practices and draw international expertise to shape its new capital that would reflect both innovation and sustainability, he said.

The CM noted that the Singapore government had provided the master plan for Amaravati and the World Bank was also a key development partner. Referring to a gulf between the governments of AP and Singapore thereafter, due to some events during the 2019-24 period, Naidu said that he was visiting Singapore with an aim to rebuild his state’s partnership with Singapore.

During Naidu’s visit to Bidadari Estate, which houses over 10,000 families, the Singapore officials explained about the ‘City in a Garden’ concept to the CM and it included the design features that preserved mature trees, protected natural water bodies and emphasized ‘walkability’ and connectivity.

Naidu lauded the housing board’s role in the planning and execution of Bidadari spread over 250 acres. The expanse includes extensive green infrastructure and public amenities. He was impressed at how the urban development authority has transformed an earlier cremation site into a serene urban park.
