Unique Ganesha Idols Leave Devotees In Awe In Nellore

The biggest crowd-puller was at Poornavari Veedhi, Lakshmipuram, where a glittering idol made of 54,000 bangles became the talk of the town: Reprots

NELLORE: Nellore turned into a vibrant hub of devotion and creativity this Ganesha festival, with organisers competing to present Lord Ganesha in striking and innovative forms. From idols crafted out of bangles to those sculpted from jaggery, the city showcased a spectacular mix of artistry and faith that drew thousands of devotees.

The biggest crowd-puller was at Poornavari Veedhi, Lakshmipuram, where a glittering idol made of 54,000 bangles became the talk of the town. Designed by noted artist Goli Srikanth of Chirala, the dazzling creation took over a week to complete and attracted more than 10,000 visitors. Srikanth also crafted another showpiece, a massive idol made of jaggery blocks commissioned by the Simhapuri Cloth Market Association at Rebalavari Street, Stonehousepet.

The association, known for its unique Ganesha concepts, has in the past used gold spot bottles, Duke biscuits, Nava Dhanyalu, and even depictions of the Dwadasha Jyotirlingas. Association president Munaga Radhaiah said the jaggery blocks used this year would later be distributed among devotees, while only a smaller clay idol placed alongside would be immersed.

Adding to the festive spirit, 93 women residents of PTG Raja Towers teamed up with the Mukkala Dwarakanath Mithra Mandali to install a charming idol made of mini bangles (Chitti Gajulu), drawing crowds with its delicate design. Elsewhere, the Friends Association of Balaji Nagar installed a striking idol of Lord Ganesha in a standing posture alongside his consort Siddhi (Vara Siddhi). A majestic Garuda statue at the pandal entrance added grandeur to the shrine.

Friends Association members K. Dileep Reddy, K. Pratap, and K. Kalyan said the idols were crafted in Bellary and brought to Nellore at a cost of nearly ₹2 lakh, citing the superior quality of clay used there.

What stood out across Nellore was not just creativity but the sense of community. Most organisers pooled in funds themselves, accepting only voluntary contributions. Alongside the dazzling idols, festivities included homams, cultural programmes, and annaprasadam distribution, ensuring that devotion went hand in hand with celebration.
