Union Minister Opens Modernised Sullurpeta Railway Station

Union MoS Pemmasani Chandrasekhar inaugurates ₹14.5 crore upgraded Sullurpeta Railway Station under Amrit Bharat scheme.

Tirupati: Union minister of state Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar inaugurated the upgraded Sullurpeta Railway Station in Tirupati district in the presence of local MLA Nelavala Vijayasree.

The event coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual launch of 103 redeveloped railway stations across the country on Thursday as part of the nationwide rollout of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to enhance passenger amenities and infrastructure in line with modern standards.
The Sullurpeta station has been modernised at a cost of ₹14.5 crore. Its design incorporates elements reflecting local culture, including references to the nearby Chengalamma Temple.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Chandrasekhar said the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to transform more than 1,300 railway stations across India into modern, commuter-friendly spaces with improved facilities.
Recalling the poor conditions of railway travel in earlier decades, he underlined that the present government is committed to ensuring safe, clean and efficient railway travel. “Stations are no longer just transit points—they are now becoming integral parts of regional development and connectivity,” he pointed out.
The union minister noted that the central government has significantly increased funding for railway projects in Andhra Pradesh. During the financial year 2025–26, a railway budget of ₹9,000 crore has been allocated to AP. In addition, ₹50,000 crore have been earmarked for enhancing railway infrastructure in the state over the next five years.
Dr. Chandrasekhar gave credit to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for supporting infrastructure development through coordination with the centre. He asked citizens to use public infrastructure responsibly and support the government’s development efforts.
Those present included Tirupati district collector Dr. S. Venkateshwar, Chennai divisional railway manager B. Vishwanath Iyer, BJP state vice-president Vakati Narayana Reddy, Telugu Desam party district president G. Narasimha Yadav, RDO Kiranmayi, railway officials, elected representatives, students and local residents.
