Tyre Burst Kills 3 In Fiery Bus-Lorry Collision In Nandyal District

According to police, the accident occurred shortly after 2 am within the limits of Shirivella mandal.

Kurnool:Three persons have been killed and over a dozen passengers injured in a fiery road accident during the early hours of Thursday involving a private passenger bus and a container lorry near Shirivellametta in Nandyal district. According to police, the accident occurred shortly after 2 am within the limits of Shirivella mandal. An ARBCVR private travels bus carrying 36 passengers from Nellore to Hyderabad reportedly suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control over the vehicle. The bus mounted the road divider and ran onto the other carriageway, leading to a head-on with a container lorry coming from the opposite direction.

The impact was so severe that the bus immediately caught fire. Flames spread rapidly with the blaze engulfing the container lorry also. Both the bus and lorry drivers and the lorry cleaner got charred beyond recognition. Police said all the 36 passengers of the bus escaped, largely due to the bus cleaner’s presence of mind and the assistance he received from a passing DCM vehicle. Most passengers managed to come out of the bus unhurt. Others sustained minor injuries while jumping out after the bus cleaner and the DCM driver broke open the window panes of the bus. The duo also helped in evacuation of the passengers.

Meanwhile, all the electric two-wheelers that the container lorry had been transporting got reduced to ashes in the fire. The lorry had departed from Hyderabad carrying a load of electric two-wheelers. It had earlier unloaded a few vehicles in Kurnool and had been proceeding towards Kamalapuram in YSR Kadapa district to deliver the remaining vehicles at multiple locations when the accident occurred. Police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation.

Roads and Buildings minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy described the accident as unfortunate. Expressing deep anguish over the loss of three lives, he conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Minority Welfare minister N.M.D. Farooq visited the accident site and reviewed the situation.
