Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ordered an immediate probe into the deaths of two students and the illness of several others who reportedly suffered adverse reactions after being administered anti-malarial chloroquine tablets.
Naidu directed the authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the reported adverse reactions.
The chloroquine tablets were administered to 71 residents of Gollaguppa village as a preventive measure against malaria. The village has a population of around 253.
Those who fell ill were shifted to the Bhadrachalam Area Hospital for treatment.
Collector Dinesh Kumar informed Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav that the condition of those admitted to the hospital was stable. The Health Minister directed officials to ensure that the affected patients receive proper medical care and closely monitor their condition.
