Two Minors Held In Burglary Case, 20 Tolas Of Gold Recovered From Them

The minors are involved in the theft of around 20 tolas of gold ornaments and 10 tolas of silver items from the house within the Fourth Town police station limits.

Kurnool police have apprehended two minors in connection with a house burglary case and recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments from them. The accused, aged below 18 years, have been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday.

According to police, the minors are involved in the theft of around 20 tolas of gold ornaments and 10 tolas of silver items from the house within the Fourth Town police station limits.

Kurnool deputy superintendent of police Babu Prasad said burglary had taken place at the house of a retired paper mill employee Venkata Subbaiah in Ameen Abbas Nagar. Subbaiah left for Kadapa on March 27, 2026, on personal work. Taking advantage of his absence, unidentified persons broke open the locks of the house during the midnight hours of March 29 and entered the premises.

The burglars broke open the cupboard inside the house and decamped with gold and silver ornaments. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, Fourth Town police registered a case and started investigating.

Special teams led by Fourth Town circle inspector Vikram Simha, Three Town CI Sheshayya and sub-inspector Chandrasekhar Reddy examined available CCTV footage and gathered technical evidence. They zeroed in on the suspects residing in Balaji Nagar. Acting on specific information, police apprehended them near Munagalapadu summer storage tank on Wednesday morning.

Police said the juveniles took to thefts to fund their lavish lifestyle without the knowledge of their parents.

Kurnool superintendent of police Vikrant Patil appreciated the police teams for their swift action in solving the case and recovering the stolen property.

LIC agent injured in chemical attack at Vizag

A man was seriously injured after an unidentified assailant attacked him with a highly concentrated bathroom cleaner in Visakhapatnam late Tuesday night. The incident occurred near Mallamma Temple under Gajuwaka police station limits. The victim, Prasad Rao, a LIC agent, was sitting outside his house when he was attacked. Gajuwaka Circle Inspector Pardha Saradhi said the assault is suspected to be linked to a financial dispute. The victim was shifted to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused.

Contractor held for sexual exploitation, murder of girl

Kalavala Venkateswara Rao, a 55-year-old contractor from Vizianagaram, was arrested in Srikakulam for allegedly sexually exploiting and murdering a 17-year-old girl.

The crime occurred between March 23 and 24, when Rao won the girl’s trust under the pretext of offering tutoring and educational support.

He reportedly took her to multiple locations, where he subjected her to repeated sexual abuse. Following a dispute over marriage, he allegedly murdered her, misinforming her parents that she was unwell. When they took her to a hospital, doctors confirmed she was already dead.

The investigation began after her mother filed a complaint, leading to a swift inquiry overseen by district SP K.V. Maheswara Reddy and resulting in Rao's arrest on March 31 at a filling station in Hiramandalam.

Court grants 5-day police custody in terror case

A Chief Judicial Magistrate court on Wednesday granted five days’ police custody of five accused in a terrorism-linked case.

The accused — Mohammad Rehmatullah Shariff (A-1), Mohammed Danish (A-2), Mirza Sohail Baig (A-3), Sayeeda Begum (A-5) and Abdul Salaam (A-11) — were brought from Central Prison Rajamahendravaram and taken to a government hospital for medical examination before being handed over to police.

Officials said the custody will enable detailed interrogation to gather more information on alleged unlawful and extremist activities that could pose a threat to internal security and national integrity.

HC notices to police over accused parading

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued notices to senior police officials in a contempt of court case alleging public parading of accused persons.

A division bench comprising Justice Manavendranath Roy and Justice Gedela Tuhin Kumar heard the petition filed by Ongole-based Sheikh Shahina, who alleged that his son was arrested and paraded in violation of legal norms. The petitioner sought action against the officials involved.

The court directed Home Principal Secretary Kumar Viswajith, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, Prakasam SP Harshavardhan Reddy and Ongole Taluk police station SHO T. Vijaya Krishna to file counter affidavits. The matter has been posted for further hearing on April 29.
