TTD To Set Up Emergency Response Team for Safety on Alipiri Footpath

He directed officials to strengthen waste management to prevent animals from being attracted by food waste.

Nellore: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has decided to strengthen safety measures for pilgrims using the Alipiri footpath by implementing a comprehensive wildlife management plan and setting up a dedicated emergency response team.

Reviewing safety arrangements with TTD and Forest department officials on Saturday, TTD additional executive officer C.H. Venkayya Chowdary directed all departments to work in coordination to ensure pilgrim safety and effectively manage wildlife movement.

He called for a scientific analysis of wildlife incidents reported over the past few years to prepare a long-term action plan and identify high-risk zones along the trekking route. Officials were asked to study wildlife movement patterns, assess key risk parameters and continuously monitor animal populations in the Tirumala forest to enable timely intervention.

The additional EO also ordered a study to determine whether shops along the Alipiri footpath were contributing to wildlife movement. He directed officials to strengthen waste management to prevent animals from being attracted by food waste.

He stressed the need to enhance security in vulnerable areas and improve coordination among the Forest, Vigilance, Engineering and Health wings for continuous monitoring, information sharing and swift emergency response.

A special emergency response team will be set up near the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple with trained personnel, modern equipment, vehicles and communication systems to respond quickly to wildlife-related incidents.

During the meeting, TTD DFO Phani Kumar Naidu presented data on leopard movement over the past two years, based on inputs from trap and solar cameras. Senior Forest department and TTD officials attended the review meeting.
