TTD Processes Over One Lakh Wedding Invitations Annually to Bless Newlyweds

According to TTD officials, the initiative is aimed at invoking the blessings of Lord Venkateswara for couples at the start of their married life

TIRUPATI: What began as a devotional practice has now become a structured annual service at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), with its postal wing processing over one lakh wedding invitations every year to extend divine blessings to newly married couples.

According to TTD officials, the initiative is aimed at invoking the blessings of Lord Venkateswara for couples at the start of their married life. Newlyweds who send their wedding invitations to the temple administration receive a packet of sacred items along with a written message of blessings.

As part of the service, TTD dispatches akshintalu, kumkum, a kankanam and talambralu, along with photographs of Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi. A Vedic blessing letter issued in the name of the TTD executive officer and a book titled Kalyana Samskruthi, which explains the values and responsibilities associated with marriage, are also included.

TTD officials said marriage marks the beginning of the grihastha ashrama, a crucial phase in life according to Indian tradition. Receiving divine blessings at this stage is considered auspicious, and the programme has consistently drawn responses from devotees across the country over the years.

The sacred items sent by TTD are closely linked to traditional wedding customs. While the kankanam symbolises protection and well-being, the talambralu are sent with prayers for harmony, prosperity and a stable married life. The Kalyana Samskruthi book is intended to help couples understand the cultural, moral and social significance of marriage.

The service is managed by the Shuddha Prati (postal) section located at the TTD administrative building in Tirupati. Staff members work throughout the year to sort, verify and dispatch the blessing packets to couples based on the wedding invitations received.

Newly married couples wishing to receive Lord Venkateswara’s blessings may send their wedding invitation along with their complete postal address to the executive officer, TTD administrative building, K.T. Road, Tirupati – 517501. Further details can be obtained from the TTD call centre at 155257.
