Tirupati: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman B.R. Naidu on Sunday strongly refuted allegations made by former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy over the reported deaths of 100 cows at the TTD Goshala, dismissing them as politically motivated attempts to tarnish the institution’s image.
Speaking to the media after inspecting the Goshala in Tirupati along with TTD officials, Naidu asserted that the cattle are being cared for with utmost devotion, with a regular supply of fodder and proper veterinary support.
Naidu accused Karunakar Reddy of misleading the public by circulating old photographs of cattle deaths from previous years and portraying them as recent. He claimed these images were taken during Reddy’s own tenure as chairman and had been manipulated by altering the dates to create a false narrative. He presented the images along with corresponding dates to the media, stating they expose the misinformation campaign.
Citing a vigilance report from the previous administration, Naidu alleged that expired medicines and pest-infested fodder were distributed to the cattle under Karunakar Reddy’s leadership. He displayed the report and related photographs as evidence of alleged irregularities committed during the former board’s tenure, asserting that the current administration has shown no negligence in cow care.
Naidu condemned repeated attempts to drag TTD into political controversies and warned that false accusations against a sacred religious institution would not be tolerated. “If there are any personal allegations against me, they should be raised directly. Why target the institution?” he asked, adding, “Would Bhumana dare to run similar misinformation campaigns against institutions of other faiths?”
He questioned Karunakar Reddy’s devotion, stating that one who truly fears God would not indulge in daily falsehoods. Naidu also revealed that upon taking charge, he reviewed past engineering works and found serious irregularities, with contractors claiming they had to pay commissions. He alleged that Karunakar Reddy had earned notoriety as the “commission chairman”.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency, Naidu asserted that he has maintained a corruption-free administration since taking office and vowed to protect the sanctity of TTD against any form of malicious propaganda.
