Tributes Paid to K.L. Rao on Death Anniversary
Former MLA recalls Dr. Rao’s role in major irrigation and power projects across Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada: Former MLA Malladi Vishnu paid rich tributes to the legendary engineer and statesman Dr. K.L. Rao on the occasion of the latter’s death anniversary.
At a meeting held at the Velagapudi Ramakrishna Memorial Auditorium near Governorpet Court in Vijayawada, Malladi Vishnu highlighted Dr. Rao’s remarkable journey and his invaluable contributions to development of Andhra Pradesh as well as India.
The former MLA recalled that K.L. Rao had been born at Kankipadu in Krishna district. Despite losing his father at the age of nine, he pursued his education with unwavering determination. His perseverance and academic excellence made him a role model for generations. In 1963, he had been honoured with Padma Bhushan for his contributions to the irrigation and power sectors.
Vishnu pointed out that Dr. Rao had been instrumental in the planning and executing major irrigation and hydroelectric projects, including the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam on the Krishna River between Guntur (Andhra Pradesh) and Nalgonda (Telangana), and the Srisailam Dam, one of India's largest hydroelectric power stations, situated on the border of Kurnool (AP) and Jogulamba Gadwal (TG). He was also the visionary behind the Pulichintala Project, which significantly transformed the Krishna delta into a fertile agricultural region.
