Tourism Projects Must Move Beyond DPR: Collector

VIJAYAWADA: NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha has directed officials to ground and complete all proposed tourism projects within strict timelines, ensuring they do not remain confined strictly to the detailed project report (DPR) stage.

Chairing the official district tourism promotion committee meeting in Vijayawada, the collector emphasised that these initiatives must actively boost regional tourism, local employment, and the local economy. Key directives include fast-tracking the `75-crore AMC Entertainment Project on Bhavani Island to make it operational by July 2027. This five-to-ten-acre project will feature destination wedding facilities, water sports, and a 500-seat convention hall. Additionally, safety standards and service quality will be enhanced at the Amaravati Boating Club, while a new 75-seat mini-theatre will be introduced at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Kala Vedika for school students.

Infrastructure improvements are ordered for the River Harathi programme at Pavitra Sangham, including a special 30-degree platform, temple-managed devotee facilities, better road connectivity, power infrastructure, and dedicated APSRTC evening bus services. Advanced arrangements are also mandated for the 'Vijayawada Utsav' during the Navaratri festivities.

Finally, specific plans include reviving CIBAR Disneyland, securing Central PRASAD scheme funds for major local temples, and transforming Kondapalli Fort into an adventure tourism destination with trekking and rappelling facilities.
