Toll Gates Lifted as Sankranti Traffic Builds Up at Kalaparru Plaza

Hundreds of vehicles were heading towards the Godavari districts from Hyderabad and other cities, leading to long queues at the toll plaza

KAKINADA: Closed Toll gates were opened at the Kalaparru toll plaza in Pedapadu mandal of Eluru district on Sunday to ease heavy traffic during the Sankranti rush. Hundreds of vehicles were heading towards the Godavari districts from Hyderabad and other cities, leading to long queues at the toll plaza.

Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar inspected the Kalaparru toll plaza and directed officials to open all closed toll gates to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles. He said that during the Sankranti festival, lakhs of people travel to their native places and toll plaza operators should not inconvenience them by delaying traffic in the name of fee collection.

The MLA pointed out that as per National Highway guidelines, vehicles should not be stopped for more than three minutes at any toll plaza. He said if vehicles cross the yellow line within a 100-metre radius, if more than six vehicles are queued, or if traffic backs up beyond 100 metres, the toll gates must be lifted and vehicles allowed to pass freely.

He asked Kalaparru toll plaza authorities, along with National Highways and patrolling officials, to strictly follow these norms and ensure that travellers face no inconvenience during the festival season, both while arriving and departing.
