Tirupati: Two Convicted In 2017 Attempted Rape, Attempt To Murder Case
According to police, the case was registered at Alipiri police station on a complaint lodged by affected woman of Erramitta in Tirupati.
TIRUPATI: The VI Additional District Judge Court in Chittoor has convicted two men in a 2017 case of attempted rape and attempt to murder, sentencing them to three years and six months of rigorous imprisonment each. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on each convict.
According to police, the case was registered at Alipiri police station on a complaint lodged by affected woman of Erramitta in Tirupati. She alleged that her 24-year-old daughter was attacked on May 27, 2017, near an under-construction building on the road between Ruia Hospital and the Iskcon temple.
Police said the two accused allegedly threatened the woman with a knife, forced her into an autorickshaw and took her to a secluded place, where they assaulted her with an iron rod and attempted to sexually assault her.
Then Alipiri sub-inspector P. Mallikarjuna Reddy registered a case and filed a chargesheet after completing the investigation. The case was tried as Sessions Case No. 348 of 2017 before the VI Additional District Judge Court in Chittoor.
After examining the prosecution evidence and witness testimonies, the court found A. Venkatesh, 31, and T. Shashi, 40, both residents of Tirupati, guilty of the offences.
Tirupati superintendent of police L. Subba Rayudu appreciated the investigating officers, assistant public prosecutor M. Balaji, liaison officer head constable B. Girish Babu, court head constable G. Nagaraju, investigating officer P. Mallikarjuna Reddy and Alipiri inspector Rama Kishore for securing the conviction.
