Tirupati RTA Cracks Down on Over Speeding Busses, Tax Defaulters
The enforcement drive led to cases being registered against 30 all India tourist permit vehicles for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act and related rules

TIRUPATI: Road Transport authorities have seized two buses, registered cases against 30 vehicles, and imposed penalties totalling around ₹10 lakh during a special enforcement drive conducted over the past two days in Tirupati district.
During the drive, officials first acted against an all India tourist permit bus travelling from Hyderabad to Tirupati after they found it exceeding the prescribed speed limit through technical monitoring by the state transport department control room. They subsequently inspected and seized the vehicle.
District Transport Officer Korrapati Muralimohan said cases have so far been registered against 10 vehicles for over-speeding in the district. He said the mandatory GPS tracking device installed in the bus had been deliberately tampered with. Legal action has been initiated against the vehicle operator, as disabling GPS equipment is considered a serious violation under the Motor Vehicles Act and Central Motor Vehicle Rules.
In another case, a contract carriage bus travelling from Kolkata to Bengaluru had been found operating without paying the required All India Permit Tax. Motor Vehicle inspector Mohan Kumar seized the vehicle after issuing an inspection report. The operator is required to pay ₹5.20 lakh towards tax and penalty charges.
The enforcement drive led to cases being registered against 30 all India tourist permit vehicles for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act and related rules. Penalties amounting to nearly ₹5 lakh have been imposed. The DTO said special inspections would continue against over-speeding vehicles, tax violations and GPS tampering to ensure passenger safety.
