Tirupati Police Launch Solar CCTV Initiative

The SP stated that security measures had been stepped up at all temples in the district. In addition to the CCTV cameras, drone surveillance is being deployed to monitor areas outside the reach of ground patrols, optimising both manpower and resources.

TIRUPATI: With an aim to improve public safety, Tirupati district police have begun installing 150 solar-powered CCTV cameras at strategic locations. The initiative, costing `10 lakh, aims to enhance surveillance across key areas, including Tirupati city, Tirumala, Chandragiri, and other high-priority spots.

District superintendent of police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju unveiled the project during a press conference at the district police headquarters in Tirupati on Monday. He emphasised that the cameras, which operate entirely on solar energy, would ensure continuous monitoring, even during power outages. The advanced cameras come equipped with both audio and video capabilities, wireless connectivity and real-time access via mobile SIM cards for remote viewing.

To further bolster security around the Tirumala temple, the SP revealed that 20 cameras would be installed specifically in the temple town. Surveillance will also extend to identified black spots and sensitive areas across the district, including the Garuda Varadhi stretch. SP Raju pointed out that these solar-powered cameras would help deter anti-social activities and control rowdy elements more efficiently.

The SP stated that security measures had been stepped up at all temples in the district. In addition to the CCTV cameras, drone surveillance is being deployed to monitor areas outside the reach of ground patrols, optimising both manpower and resources. He noted that recent drone operations had led to successful raids on ganja plantations and illegal liquor production sites.

SP Raju warned that stringent action would be taken against anyone involved in anti-social activities in the district. The press conference was attended by additional SP K. Ravimanoharachari, special branch CI Sadiq Ali, cyber crimes CI Vinod Kumar, command control CI I. Ishwar and RI Ramana Reddy.
