Tirupati: State government has issued notices to 11 Roads and Buildings (R&B) engineers over alleged violations in road widening and high-level bridge works undertaken across the erstwhile Chittoor district between 2019 and 2024.

The action follows a Vigilance inquiry that found alleged violations of rules in execution of works.

The officials served notices have been asked to submit their written explanations within 10 days.

Engineers facing allegations include executive engineer Stanley Jones, deputy executive engineer Govardhan, and assistant executive engineers A. Chandrasekhar, Ajit Kumar Reddy, Venkatayya, and P. Adikesavulu, who had been responsible for supervising the works during the period.

Quality Control engineers named in the notices are deputy executive engineers Geetha Rani, M. Reddeyya, and A.N. Praveen Kumar, and assistant executive engineers Shantamma and M. Chandra Sekhar.

Reddeyya has retired, while Praveen Kumar is currently serving as NHAI project director at Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu.

There are allegations that employees of an organisation belonging to a YSR Congress Party leader had prepared the proposals for R&B works.

The proposals involved inflated project estimates.

These proposals had been handed over to the engineering officials for clearance and implementation.
