Tirupati Gears Up For Four-Day Amaravati Championship

Accommodation, food, transport, medical services and security are being arranged for nearly 14,000 athletes, coaches and staff

TIRUPATI: Tirupati is set to host the state-level Amaravati Championship-2026 from August 24 to 27, with 9,911 sportspersons from all 26 districts competing in 12 disciplines.

The four-day event is the final stage of competitions held across the state over the past two months. More than 2.07 lakh sportspersons took part in constituency-level events across 175 constituencies, while 83,650 competed at the district level before the finalists were selected.

The competitions will be held in archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, basketball, chess, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, weightlifting, volleyball and yoga. Individual and team events will be conducted in the Under-17 category for boys and girls and the Under-23 category for university students.

The district administration, TTD, police, Tirupati Municipal Corporation and universities have made joint arrangements for the event. Accommodation, food, transport, medical services and security are being arranged for nearly 14,000 athletes, coaches and staff.

SAAP chairman A. Ravi Naidu said on Sunday that Tirupati was chosen for the championship because of its sports infrastructure. He said the event was being organised on a large scale to provide opportunities and recognition to young sportspersons.

The jerseys representing all 26 districts were unveiled on Sunday by joint collector R. Govinda Rao, Ravi Naidu, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam vice-chancellor Prof. V. Uma and SV University registrar Prof. M. Bhupathi Naidu.

The opening ceremony will be held at 9 am on Monday. Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha, Anagani Satya Prasad and M. Ramprasad Reddy are expected to attend.

Winners will receive cash incentives of more than `92 lakh at a programme on August 29, observed as National Sports Day in memory of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
