Tirupati, Chittoor Hold 5K Runs For Census Self-Enumeration
Urging citizens to register through the self-enumeration system
TIRUPATI: To promote digital participation in Census 2027, the district administrations of Tirupati and Chittoor organised 5K runs on Sunday, urging citizens to register through the self-enumeration system.
In Tirupati, the run was flagged off from Vivekananda Circle to Sri Venkateswara University by district revenue officer G. Narasimhulu along with TTD trust board member Panabaka Lakshmi. The event aimed to create awareness on the newly introduced self-enumeration facility.
Addressing participants, Narasimhulu said the programme was organised on the directions of district collector Dr S. Venkateswar to sensitise people about the importance of self-enumeration.
He said Census 2027 would be conducted in two phases. House listing would be taken up from May 1 to May 30 through enumerators visiting households, followed by population enumeration in February 2027. For the first time, citizens would have the option of completing self-enumeration through a digital platform, he added.
He said residents could submit household details through mobile phones, after which a registration number would be generated. This number could be shared with enumerators during their visit for verification and approval. Corrections could also be made through enumerators, he said.
In the run, D. Sikinder won the first prize of ₹5,000, Bhagavath secured the second prize of ₹3,000 and D. Sindhoor won the third prize of ₹2,000.
In Chittoor, a similar 5K run was organised by the municipal corporation near Gandhi statue junction. MLA Gurajala Jagan Mohan, along with commissioner P. Narasimha Prasad, flagged off the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA urged residents to participate in self-enumeration, saying the success of Census 2027 depended on public participation. He said the facility would remain available till April 30 and asked citizens to register through the official website.
