Tirupati Begins First Mango Pulp Exports To UK Under India-UK FTA

TIRUPATI: The first container carrying mango pulp from Tirupati was flagged off for export to the United Kingdom on Monday following the implementation of the India-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
The container, exported by Tirupati-based Sri Varsha Foods, was flagged off by RP Naidu, regional assistant general manager of the agricultural and processed food products export development authority; Phani Kiran, deputy director general of foreign trade, horticulture joint director Devamuni Reddy and Tirupati district horticulture officer Jayabharath Reddy.
Jayabharath Reddy said the India-UK FTA had opened new export opportunities for horticultural products from AP. He said the first mango pulp export from Tirupati to the UK was a proud moment for the district.
Higher exports, he said, would help farmers secure better prices for their produce while encouraging growth in the food processing sector. Quality production and scientific processing would strengthen the state's presence in international markets.
Jayabharath Reddy said the horticulture department would continue providing technical support to farmers. Close coordination among farmers, processors and exporters would help expand horticulture, improve value addition and increase exports from the state.
Such initiatives, he said, would encourage more food processing units to explore overseas markets and create additional employment in rural areas. Farmers were advised to maintain quality standards, adopt better post-harvest practices and work with exporters to meet international requirements.
