Tirumala to Observe Every Tuesday as Cleaning Day

Health officials instructed operators to maintain cleanliness and prevent pests such as cockroaches, rats and lizards from entering the shops

TIRUPATI: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) health department has decided to observe every Tuesday as “Cleaning Day” at fast-food centres and hotels in Tirumala as part of preparations for the annual Srivari Brahmotsavams.

Under the initiative, fast-food centres will remain closed every Tuesday from 11 am to 5 pm to allow operators to clean their premises and remove accumulated waste and dirt. On Tuesday, centres in areas including Third Choultry and Pilgrims Amenities Complexes 1 and 2 were closed and their surroundings cleaned.

The initiative follows complaints from devotees about unhygienic conditions around some fast-food centres. TTD Executive Officer M. Ravichandra and Additional EO Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary directed the health department to introduce the weekly cleaning programme.

Health officials instructed operators to maintain cleanliness and prevent pests such as cockroaches, rats and lizards from entering the shops. They were also asked to keep food preparation, storage and sale areas clean and ensure hygienic and quality food for devotees.

Officials warned that strict action would be taken against operators who failed to follow hygiene norms or continued to receive complaints regarding cleanliness.
