KAKINADA: A tiger from the Papikondalu National Park (PNP) has been spotted near the Polavaram Project area, causing concern among project workers and residents of nearby rehabilitation villages.
The tiger reportedly attacked a buffalo calf near Patha Devaragundi village, critically injuring it. Forest officials identified its pugmarks in the rehabilitation villages of Patha Devaragundi and in the Polavaram project construction zones.
Forest officials have alerted project construction workers and residents of the rehabilitation villages to remain cautious.
Cheif Conservator of Forests T. Jyothi told Deccan Chronicle that the tiger had been in the PNP for the past 20 days and had now moved towards a plain area, though it remained far from the villages.
Four teams comprising 35 to 40 personnel are monitoring the tiger’s movements, she said. The tiger is estimated to weigh around 220 to 225 kg.
Jyothi said there was currently no danger to people as the tiger was in a dense plain area away from the villages. However, she advised residents to remain alert and said forest personnel were monitoring its movements closely.
