Thunderstorms to Continue, Low Pressure Forms Over Bay

Visakhapatnam:A low-pressure area formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Sri Lanka coast “continued to persist in the same region,” the state disaster management authority stated on Monday.

Due to its influence, light rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are likely at isolated places on Tuesday in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Chittoor and Tirupati districts.
The authority advised the people to avoid staying in open areas during thunderstorms and seek shelter in safe buildings. Residents were warned not to stand near old structures or large hoardings during strong winds and lightning activity.
Farmers and agricultural workers should remain alert while working in fields. Cattle rearers and farmers must move to safer places immediately if thunderclouds develop or thunder is heard, and avoid taking shelter under trees.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are likely in eight mandals including GK Veedhi, Munchingiputtu and Pedabayalu in Alluri district, and Chintoor, Kunavaram, Maredumilli, VR Puram and Gurtedu in Polavaram district.
On Monday, the highest temperature in the state was 42.3°C in Vijayawada East of NTR district. Other major temperatures were 42.1°C in Kukkunoor and Kunavaram, 41.5°C in Mantralayam, 41.4°C in Kopperapadu, 41.3°C in Kadapa and 41.2°C in Tadepalli.
