Thunderstorms Likely in Andhra; Heatwave Conditions to Continue in Several Mandals

Amaravati: Thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall are expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh over the next two days and heatwave conditions are likely to persist in several mandals, the APSDMA said on Monday.
According to Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), a trough extending from the Karnataka region to the Coastal Andhra coast is likely to trigger light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places in Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai and YSR Kadapa districts for two days from Monday.
"The state is likely to witness a combination of thunderstorm activity and persistent heat conditions, with rainfall expected in some districts and high temperatures continuing in other places," APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said in an official release.
Meanwhile, severe heatwave conditions are likely in 56 mandals and heatwave conditions are expected in another 67 mandals on Monday.
Districts likely to witness severe heatwave conditions include Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Kakinada, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, Prakasam, Anantapur and Chittoor, the APSDMA said.
Temperatures ranging between 42 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius are likely at isolated places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Kakinada, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna and Prakasam districts.
Maximum temperatures between 40 degrees Celsius and 42 degrees Celsius are expected in parts of Konaseema, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa and Chittoor districts.
On Sunday, the highest temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Karedu in Prakasam district, followed by 43.4 degrees Celsius at Nandanamarella in Markapuram district. Pittalavanipalem in Bapatla district and Pedaparupudi in Krishna district recorded 43.2 degrees Celsius each.
Jain advised elderly persons, pregnant women and lactating mothers to take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing heat conditions. People suffering from heart ailments, diabetes and blood pressure-related issues were advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and remain adequately hydrated.
People should avoid standing under trees, electric poles and hoardings during thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Farmers and cattle herders working in fields should immediately move to safer places when thunder is heard or the sky turns cloudy, he added.
