Three youngsters drown in Krishna River
According to Avanigadda DSP T. Vidya Sri, ten youngsters from Modumudi village had come to the river at Kothapeta for a fun outing

Vijayawada: What was meant to be a joyful holiday outing ended in tragedy when three 15-year-old boys drowned in the Krishna River at Kothapeta in Avanigadda mandal of Krishna district on Sunday.
According to Avanigadda DSP T. Vidya Sri, ten youngsters from Modumudi village had come to the river at Kothapeta for a fun outing. Around 12.30 pm, two boys entered the river for a swim. As they were unfamiliar with swimming, they began to drown and screamed for help. Another boy rushed in to save them, but all three were swept away by the strong current.
Hearing the commotion, their friends on the shore raised an alarm. Locals alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. One of the boys was pulled out of the water and taken to a nearby hospital, but he died as his lungs were filled with water. The bodies of the other two were later retrieved from the river and shifted to the government hospital for post-mortem.
The deceased were identified as Mathi Veerababu, 15, Mathi Gopikiran, 15, and Mathi Yathiraju Kumar, 15. Police have registered a case and taken up investigation.
