N. Andhra teacher MLC polls story: 21,555 voters will cast votes for teachers MLA seat poll

Visakhapatnam: Three candidates filed their nominations for elections to the post of Teacher MLC representing Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Anakapalle, Alluri Seetharamaraju and Parvathipuram Manyam districts within the north Andhra on Tuesday, coinciding with the auspicious Ratha Saptami.

No nomination had been filed on the first day of nominations, which opened on Monday.

Candidates, who submitted their nominations to the returning officer and Visakhapatnam district collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, are Pakalapati Raghuvarma, Kosuru Radhakrishna and Sattaluri Sriranga Padmavati.

Raghuvarma entered the fray as a candidate of APTF (Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation). Telugu Desam leader and MLC Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao accompanied Raghuvarma, who submitted two sets of nomination papers.

Radhakrishna and Padmavati submitted one set of papers each to the returning officer.

Nominations will be accepted until February 10. Scrutiny of nominations will be on February 11. Nominations can be withdrawn till February 13. MLC elections are scheduled for February 27.

There are a total of 21,555 voters in the combined N. Andhra districts, who will cast their votes at 123 polling stations. According to the election officer, another 1,300 applications are pending for registration as voters.

The final list of voters will be released on February 10.
