NELLORE: Pakala police arrested three persons on Friday in connection with the murder of Akula Kiran, 33, who died while undergoing treatment after being allegedly assaulted by the accused.
The accused were identified as Nikhil, 20, Mahasamudram Rupesh, 20, and Pakala Naresh Reddy, 24. According to police, the trio, who were acquainted with Kiran, took him to a mango orchard near a wine shop at Damalacheruvu on August 22, where they consumed liquor and quarrelled.
Later that evening, Kiran confronted the three at a mango-loading ramp near Kukkalapalli for consuming liquor without calling him. The accused allegedly assaulted him with their hands and legs and pushed him from the ramp, causing serious head injuries.
Kiran was initially treated under an attempt-to-murder case but died during treatment, following which police altered the case to murder.
Acting on credible information, a special team led by Pakala inspector T. Chinna Govindu arrested the three near the Nendragunta flyover at around 8.30 am on Friday. They were later remanded in judicial custody.
Tirupati SP L. Subbarayudu warned that strict action would be taken against those indulging in violence under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants and urged people to approach the police instead of resorting to violence.
