Threat of Godavari River Flooding Recedes
Flood waters have reached the Pasarlapudi Tourism Centre in Mamidikuduru mandal. Water has surrounded the Kanakayalanka causeway in P. Gannavaram mandal. Flood waters have reached Amrutha Lingeswara Swamy Temple at Appanapalli.

Kakinada: The threat of floods in Godavari River is receding, with water levels at Bhadrachalam as well as Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in Dowleswaram falling.
However, the Vashishta, Vynatheya, Gowthami, Vrudha Gowthami and Togarapaya distributaries of the Godavari River in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district are overflowing. The impact, however, has been limited to the islet villages. Already Burugulanka, Ganti Pedapudi Lanka, Arigelavari Lanka, Vadrevu Lanka and other villages have been inundated.
People in these areas are using boats to move around. Flood waters have reached the Pasarlapudi Tourism Centre in Mamidikuduru mandal. Water has surrounded the Kanakayalanka causeway in P. Gannavaram mandal. Flood waters have reached Amrutha Lingeswara Swamy Temple at Appanapalli.
Officials have put up red flags downstream of the canal bund near Pasarlapudi Badava Ghat. Burial grounds at Ayinavili and Ayinavillinka villages have been inundated.
Officials are expecting that water levels at all these places may fall in one or two days.
Around 7 lakh cusecs of water is being discharged at the Polavaram Project, with 48 gates of the spillway lifted. The water level recorded at the Upper Cofferdam is 31.9 metres.
In the interim, 65 families from Gommugudem and Lachigudem villages in Kukkunuru and some families from Velerupadu mandal in Eluru district have been shifted to the R&R colonies at Dacharam, Taduvai and Nalagampalli colonies on Sunday. Officials arranged food at the colonies for the people evacuated from their homes.
State Disaster Management Authority managing director Prakhar Jain formally announced that water flow in River Godavari is receding. Water levels recorded at Bhadrachalam at 7 p.m. on Sunday is 30.6 feet. Inflow and outflow recorded at the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in Dowleswaram at 6 a.m. on Sunday are 6.20 lakh and 6.28 lakh cusecs respectively.
Prakhar Jain advised people to consult officials available on toll free numbers 112, 1070 and 18004 25101 for any emergency services. He asked people to be careful till the water totally recedes. He advised people against entering rivers or canals for fishing, swimming or bathing.
