Third Bridge over Penna River Nears Completion

Major relief for Nellore commuters once traffic is through

Nellore: In a major infrastructure boost for Nellore, the much-anticipated third bridge across the Penna River is nearing completion, bringing long-awaited relief to thousands of motorists struggling with bottlenecks on the city’s aging bridge. The works are expected to be completed by early next month.

The new bridge, part of the National Highway 67 project, would significantly ease traffic congestion on the 75-year-old bridge connecting Venkateswarapuram and the Old Checkpost. This stretch is notorious for delays, especially during vehicle breakdowns.

The new bridge will be the fourth crossing over the Penna river in Nellore—after the age-old bridge, the NH-16 overpass, and the barrage near Ranganayakulapeta.

Once open, the bridge will provide a smoother and faster entry into Nellore city for motorists from northern Andhra Pradesh via NH-16.

Travelers can take a new four-lane route from Padugupadu, cross the bridge, and reach Nellore—saving nearly 6km by avoiding the congested Children’s Park Road entrance.

The bridge is being built with advanced engineering standards, designed to handle increasing vehicular pressure while improving regional connectivity.

Motorists and local businesses alike are eagerly awaiting the bridge’s completion, seeing it not only as a solution to current traffic woes but also as a catalyst for future growth and development of the Nellore region.

As the structure takes its final shape, the countdown begins to a smoother and safer travel over the Penna river.
