Tension Grips Sankhavaram As Ambedkar Statue Disrespected

Kakinada: Tension gripped Sankhavaram village in Kakinada district following disrespect of a Dr B.R.Ambedkar statue on Monday night. Police were deployed in the village.

SP G. Bindu Madhav instructed additional SP Bhaskara Rao and Peddapuram DSP Sri Hari Raju to stay in the village till the accused were nabbed. Even as Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebrations

were held in a grand fashion on Monday, the incident came to light on Tuesday.

Several sections of people rushed to the spot and staged picketing at the statue. They demanded that the government nab the accused. Peddapuram DSP Srihari Raju, Kakinada Port CI Sunil Kumar, Thondangi SI Jagan Mohan Rao, Annavaram SI Hari Babu rushed to the spot. Though CC footages revealed the incident, details of the accused could not be traced out. Agitators staged picketing on

National Highway and raised slogans.

Meanwhile, SP Bindu Madhav rushed to the spot and held discussions with the agitators and assured them to nab the accused within 24 hours. He said the police gathered the CC footages and are observing the cell towers’ signals. He said that a committee was formed with 20 Dalits and the members should identify the accused and provide information to the police. He also took the agitators from Mandal Parishad office to Ambedkar statue and observed the CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, many leaders have condemned the incident. Prathipadu MLA Varupula Satya Prabha said that the incident is most unfortunate and requested the police to nab the accused. She said that she had already brought the issue to the notice of home minister V. Anitha and she requested the agitators to maintain patience till the accused is nabbed.
