Tension Grips Bommireddypalli As TD, YSRC Leaders Clash
Clash breaks out as YSRC accused in 2023 murder case return home under HC protection

Kurnool: Tension prevailed in the Bommireddypalli village of Veldurthi mandal in Kurnool district following a clash between YSRC and Telugu Desam leaders on Monday. A car was damaged during the incident.
In June last year, TD leader Gowrinath Chowdary, 35, of Bommireddypalli, and his brother Kalyan were attacked by local YSRCP supporters. Gowrinath succumbed to serious injuries, while Kalyan, who was shifted to the Kurnool Government General Hospital for treatment, subsequently recovered. Then District SP visited the village to assess the situation and interacted with the locals.
The deceased’s father, Ramanjaneyulu, lodged a complaint with local police mentioning the names of Ramakrishna, Ramesh, Chinna Pamaiah, Madhusudan Reddy, Chakrapani Reddy, Bhaskar Reddy, Padmanabha Reddy, Tejeswar Reddy, Chaitanya Reddy, former MLA Kangati Sridevi, Kangati Rammohan Reddy and some others as suspects. Following the incident, higher officials transferred Veldurthi Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar Reddy and Sub-Inspector Chandrasekhar Reddy to Vacancy Reserve.
36 accused YSRC activists fled the village after the incident. They later filed a petition in the High Court seeking permission to return to their hometown under police protection. The court directed the Kurnool district SP to provide security to the accused. Acting on the court order, the accused returned to Bommireddypalli on Monday.
However, tensions flared when TD leaders attempted to stop them from entering the village. A clash erupted between members of both parties, prompting police intervention. In the ensuing unrest, enraged TD activists vandalised a car belonging to a YSRCP leader. Police set up a picket in the village, deploying a large number of personnel amid enhanced tension.
