Anantapur:A tense situation prevailed at the Madakasira police station in Satya Sai district as hundreds of people from Atchampalli in Madakasira mandal staged a protest against a rural police station inspector who manhandled an "innocent" person.
Sources said the villagers of Atchampalli were performing the ritual of the Goddess Maremma Jathara and holding several related programmes. A dispute arose between two TD groups over the lack of pictures of some leaders in the flexi boards made for the event.
A group reportedly mounted pressure on the police to arrest some on the rival side. During an inquiry in the village, inspector Subramanyam bet a person in the village. He fell unconscious.
This angered the villagers. They rushed to the Madakasira police station and staged a protest demanding action against the CI. The villagers demanded that the SP intervene and take action against the inspector over his alleged misbehaviour.
